| Graeme Chesters of Shifting
Ground has recently collaborated as part of the Notes
from Nowhere Collective on the the book 'We Are
Everywhere', published by Verso. We Are Everywhere: The irresistible rise of global anti-capitalism We Are Everywhere falls somewhere between an activist anthology and a grassroots history, agitational collage and direct action manual. It traces the anti-capitalist movements from their emergence in 1994 to the present, documenting the rise of an unprecedented global rebellion a rebellion which is in constant flux, which swaps ideas across oceans, shares strategies between cultures and continents, gathers in swarms and dissolves, only to swarm again elsewhere. How does one begin to tell the history of a movement with no name, no manifesto and no leaders? Just as there is no single banner to march behind, no little red book, and no doctrine to adhere to, so there is no single narrative here. This book presents a collision of stories and subjectivities intimate and public, charged with inspiration, fear and humour, the everyday, and the historic. Gathered in these pages are over 50 voices, from street reclaimers in London and land squatters in Brazil, to anti-privatisation activists from South Africa and radical GM crop burning farmers from India. Combining innovative graphic design and photographs with texts and interviews with activists, We Are Everywhere creates a lively, polyphonic insight into the ideas and activities of the movements against capitalism. The result is an inspirational and authentic document of insurrection. A true taste of the recipe for rebellion everywhere. This isnt a book, its a brick with which to shatter cynicism.
